The Academic Research Centre of the Academy of Fine Arts (VVP AVU) is an institute for basic research that processes source documentation and critically evaluates and reinterprets Czech fine art from 1945 to the present day. It focuses on art history, theory and their interdisciplinary overlaps.
It is also the publisher ofthe journal Notebook for Art, Theory and Related Zones.
In the Czech Republic, it is the first research centre of its kind established within an art university. Its activities complement the existing range of activities of the Institute of Art History Czech Academy of Sciences, art history departments at Czech universities and other state and private schools, museum and gallery institutions and initiatives.
The aim of the VVP AVU is to contribute to the development of knowledge of the local development of art history and to its introduction into a broader international context.
The archives and library of the VVP AVU are accessible for study by appointment via e-mail vvp@avu.cz.
