\nOrganised by the AVU Research Centre in collaboration with the magazines Detail and Springerin<\/p>\n

In co-operation with the magazines Detail and Springerin, VVP AVU organised an international symposium entitled Absence and Translocation<\/i>, focusing on new media and their history in former Eastern Block countries. The entire project was in all likelihood the first grant from the European Union to be used in the area of fine arts in the Czech Republic. The symposium opened the discussion on media on a high international level and overstepped the narrow boundary of peripheral contexts. The papers focused mainly on social and political relations, which became a cohesive element of the discussions. The symposium gave rise to a series of international presentations and lectures at the National Gallery in Veletrzni palac, at the University of Applied Arts (Meisterklasse fur Mediengestaltung) in Vienna and in other foreign institutions.<\/p>\n
