The official book launch of Kulturn\u00ed p\u0159evl\u00e9k\u00e1n\u00ed. Um\u011bn\u00ed na trosk\u00e1ch socialismu a na vrcholc\u00edch nacionalismu by the Hungarian art historian Edit Andr\u00e1s, published by the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Kr\u00e1lov\u00e9, will take place on 15 February 2024 at 6pm in the auditorium of the main building of the Academy of Fine Arts (U Akadamie 4, Prague 7). Edit Andr\u00e1s will use the occasion to give a public lecture introducing listeners to the development of the Hungarian cultural scene over the last two decades, the concept of the book, and the development of Central European art in the 21st century.<\/p>\n
The lecture and subsequent discussion will be held in English. The evening will be moderated by Pavl\u00edna Morganov\u00e1, head of the AVU Academic Research Centre with the participation of the director of the Gallery of Modern Art, Franti\u0161ek Zachoval.<\/p>\n
The book is the second publication of the Central and Eastern Europe Edition, in which the Gallery of Modern Art focuses on the art history of the Central European region. The book takes the form of a translation of selected parts of Edit Andr\u00e1s\u2019s books Kultur\u00e1lis \u00e1t\u00f6lt\u00f6z\u00e9s. M\u00fcv\u00e9szet a szocializmus romjain (Cultural Cross-Dressing: Art on the Ruins of Socialism, 2009) and Hat\u00e1rs\u00e9rt\u00f6 k\u00e9pzelet. Kort\u00e1rs m\u00fcv\u00e9szet \u00e9s kritikai elm\u00e9let Eur\u00f3pa keleti fel\u00e9n (Limits of the Imagination: Contemporary Art and Critical Theory in Eastern Europe, 2023). It offers the author\u2019s reflections on the development of culture and the visual arts in Hungary over the last two decades. Copies of both Edit Andr\u00e1s\u2019s current book and the first book of the imprint referred to above, Meanings of Modernism by Piotr Piotrowski, will be available to buy at a discount. The current publications of the Academic Research Centre will also be on sale.<\/p>\n
Edit Andr\u00e1s (*1953) is a Hungarian art historian and critic, a researcher at the Institute of Art History, Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, and visiting professor at the History Department of the Central European University in Vienna. She specialises in Eastern and Central European modern and contemporary art, art theory, and focuses on gender issues and social and political engagement, nationalism and post-socialist transformation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
